Conventional nailing and framing practices should be used when attaching RafterDeTTails. Galvanized nails are highly recommended. For nail sizes review the table below.
|
RafterDeTTail |
Nail Size |
4x6, 4x8, 4x10, 4x12 |
3.5" x 5.5" |
6x6, 6x8, 6x10, 6x12 |
10d (0.131") x 3" - galvanized |
Notes:
-
Nailing is recommended to be from BOTH sides.
-
Nails should be spaced approximately 3" on-center.
-
The first nail row should start 1" from the top edge of the RafterDeTTail, and the second nail row (on the opposing side) should start approximately 2" down from the top edge of the RafterDeTTail. This will net a 1" off-set between the nail rows, to prevent splitting.
-
Nails should be positioned to ensure adequate connection with the truss tail.
-
Approximately 4 inches of "no-nailing clearance" should be allowed at the back of the RafterDeTTail.
-
Roof sheathing and or starter boards should be fastened to the truss chords for appropriate diaphragm connection.
