RafterDeTTails can be installed in all applications where conventional rafter tails are used. They simply slide over the truss tail or outrigger and get quickly nailed on from the side. In most cases heel stands on trusses can be eliminated for savings! The RafterDeTTail slot accommodates a 2x4 truss chord or outrigger. When 2x6 top chord or outrigger is used, the overhanging 2x6 tail is trimmed back to fit within the slot.
The standard installation is directly nailed onto the truss tails (see detail "A", below). However when spacing of trusses does not match the desired rafter tail spacing, installation is done with an outrigger, just like conventional tails (see detail "B", below).

- Outrigger Installation
If local building codes call for 1 1/2" thick starter board to meet fire codes, a step down outrigger can be installed adjacent to the top chord, to accommodate the difference in roof sheathing and starter board elevations (see detail "C", below).

Please review the nailing schedule and consider your
blocking scenario.
